Protection

Personalized Protection

Digital intraoral scanning, CAD and 3D printing translate an athlete's own anatomy into a repeatable design, moving beyond generalized stock and mouth-formed products toward fit, thickness and geometry built for the individual.

Performance

Neuromuscular Performance

Emerging research examines links between mandibular position, jaw clenching, muscle recruitment, strength, power and balance. Recent systematic and scoping reviews identify a meaningful signal around strength, force production and power with customized bite-aligning devices.

Sensing

Impact Sensing & Biosensing

Peer-reviewed studies show mouthguard-mounted sensors can accurately measure head-impact kinematics, while oral biosensing research has demonstrated proof-of-concept platforms for salivary lactate, uric acid, glucose and other biological signals.

From Protection to a Personalized Platform

Meta-analytic evidence supports mouthguard use in sports with meaningful orofacial injury risk, and studies of contact-sport athletes show substantially lower rates of dento-alveolar trauma among mouthguard users. The next opportunity is to make that protection more personal: an athlete's own anatomy becomes the design input, rather than a generalized approximation of it.

Sport-related brain health is more complex than a single diagnosed concussion. Research continues to examine the effects of concussive and repetitive subconcussive impacts, including possible associations with later neurodegenerative disease. These are distinct mechanisms and most people who experience a brain injury do not go on to develop a neurodegenerative disease. This evolving science points toward a broader protocol, one that combines prevention, exposure measurement, clinical assessment, recovery management and longitudinal monitoring, rather than relying on any single piece of equipment.


NeuroGuard does not propose that a mouthguard alone can solve the complex neurological consequences associated with impact sports. BioGuardX is the first commercial application of this evolving platform: a personalized sports oral device built today, continuously validated, and designed to expand as neuroscience, materials, sensors and data science advance.
